Hairy Mary Rhyme Time

A poem about real life.

No Breakfast for Izzy

I wish you would eat something.
You are so very tiny.
But you are just harrumphing
And altogether whiny.

You got a chip from Dad,
But threw banana on the floor.
And the yogurt that you had
Was only fun for you to pour.

Will you eat it? "No I won't!"
Is what you'd say if you could talk.
So then I eat what you don't
And you run away, not walk.

It has been written, so it shall be.

It has come to me attention that my current blog name is actually rather beloved, so I guess it can stay.  That is, unless I receive a bona fide vision to the contrary.  Er, contrary the Contrary. .....Whatever.

In other news, we're heading to California on Monday, where we will be staying indefinitely.  Unlike all business trips heretofore, this time I will be taking my laptop.  What this means to you is that we shall not be parted and all my adventures shall be your adventures.  Oh JOY!

Lastly, metal bookmarks are a thing.  Here are my thoughts:

Pros:

  • Durable.
Cons:
  •  They slide right out of the book onto the floor.  Then the baby picks them up and uses them to stab you in the face.
  • Painful.

New blog name

I mean, really guys, "Quite Contrary"?  Hardly original.  It was a temporary fix that just sort of somehow became more permanent.  BUT NO LONGER!!!

I am in the market for a new, more awesome blog name.  Inspiration could strike me (or YOU) at any time, so be ready.  And if it's you that gets struck, let me know.

Today I figured out how to do bullet points.

So last night I made some food which I have decided to call "Cupboard Goop."  I was actually pretty pleased with the results of  my wanton adding of things to a pot.  Not all of the ingredients came from the cupboard, so it is perhaps misnamed, but these things happen.

Food stuffs in the Cupboard Goop:

  • Onion
  • Chicken boob
  • Kidney beans
  • Pinto beans
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Celery
  • Half a box of noodles
  • Curry powder
  • Garlic salt
  • Salt and pepper
No amounts are given, because I just threw in what I had.  And yum!

Kisses

We have been working on kisses lately.  And when I say "we" I mean Izzy and me, because Matt has already pretty much got this down.

Things we have been practicing:

1.  Kissing on the cheek instead of on the lips.
2.  NOT using the tongue.
3.  Closed mouths.
4.  Making satisfying smacking noises.
5.  NOT kissing like a shark (ie, using the teeth).
6.  Sending kisses to a recipient across the room.

I'd say we're having pretty good success, although about half the time the kissing turns into raspberry blowing.  Which is also fun.

Wanty wants

Some days I spend a lot of time on the computer, and then  I end up finding things that I think are really awesome but for some reason or other I will probably never own.  So I bookmark them, and then it's like I bought them because I can see them whenever I want.

For example, there is this:

It is a super awesome backpack called the "Spiketus Rex."  How could I not want one of these?  Or several of them in different colors for each and every member of my family?!

The Latest

Izzy had her 15-month check up this week.  She is 19lbs 8 oz (11th percentile) and 31.5 inches (90th percentile), so the nickname "Izzy Bean" (as in string bean) continues to be accurate.

Of course, those measurements were terribly difficult to get.  As soon as I set her on the counter to be measured she began crying and thrashing.  And boy, is she STRONG.  Also, right before the doctor arrived she opened a cupboard and whacked herself in the face.  That led to even more weeping and wailing and gnashing of all four teeth.  She suffered a tiny cut right by her eye that turned her tears pink.  How girly.

In other news, my haircut continues to be fabulous; thank you for all the nice comments.  I did not know that many people read this blog.

This post is dedicated to Allison, who needs something to read.

Haircut

Today I paid somebody real money to cut my hair.  It was awesome.  They washed it and everything.

That is some inches, no?

All about the couch.

We got a new couch so that our basement is no longer a wasteland.  Now I call this the "Red Room."

Note: it is not the "Redrum."

Surprise!

Yesterday I saw a stinking MOUSE in our basement.  I moved a blanket that was left lying in the middle of the floor, it ran out, and (I am ashamed to say) I screamed like a little girl.  I was very startled and it was VERY fast.

Historically speaking, I am fond of mice.  However, this one was not invited into our home.  So even if it is a stinking cute mouse, we'll have to get rid of it.

I chased it around for awhile with a colander and a cookie sheet, but it is probably for the best that it magically disappeared.  I do not know what I would have done if I had somehow caught it.  We'll put down trappity traps tonight.  Wish us luck!
